PUBLICATION TO COINCIDE WITH NATIONAL REFUGEE WEEK

‘I find it very painful, remembering how my parents were killed in cold blood,

and the only way to release the pain is to cry.’

– Joyce, aged fourteen

‘We took flight from the war a long time ago…Nobody told me why.’

– Desaange, aged six

‘We came to England because we saw lots of people dying

and houses burning down. We were really scared.’

– Doruntino, aged ten

In association with the International Rescue Committee and with an introduction by award-winning author Beverley Naidoo, this poignant and inspiring collection of stories are from refugee children all over the world. Told through their eyes, it promises to be a compelling insight into the plight of the world’s refugees. The stories come from Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghanistan. Iraq, Congo, Liberia, Sudan and Burundi. Each one highlights the fractured lives and terrible situations that children had to face in their own home countries.

The youngest contributor, six-year-old Wachen Bohlen left war-torn Liberia, but wants to return because ‘it is my country. It is my home.’ The oldest is fifteen-year-old Merci Ngubi from the Congo who spent two weeks trekking in the jungle with his family after fleeing their home.

Making it Home not only humanises the refugee experience but also gives children in the UK an insight in to exactly how hard life can be when you are forced to flee your home.

All royalties will be donated to the International Rescue Committee
