:: One Day of War ::
BBC 2: One Day of War
Thu 27 May, 21:00 - 22:30 90 mins
Across the world today, millions of people are caught up in conflict. Every minute, two people die as a result of war.
A new series of This World begins with a unique television event, as BBC filmmakers follow 16 very different people on a single day to reveal the human stories behind the conflicts. Some of these battles are over disputed homelands, some are about deepest convictions, power or sheer survival.
Some of the fighters are volunteers, others conscripts, women and children. With the world focussed on the Middle East, this programme reveals lesser reported war zones, from Nepal to the jungles of Laos and the Black Sea.
Followed at 10.30pm on BBC FOUR by the stories behind the making of the film. Some strong language.

:: Sweden: Deportation/Torture Inquiry Must Be Under U.N. Auspices ::
"Three governments are implicated in the abuse of these men. There must be a full accounting. Otherwise, these cases will send yet another signal that when it comes to the ‘war on terror,’ anything goes—including torture."
Sweden: Deportation/Torture Inquiry Must Be Under U.N. Auspices
(New York, May 27, 2004)—An international inquiry under U.N. auspices is needed to credibly address allegations that two men expelled from Sweden to Egypt on an airplane leased by the U.S. government were mistreated and possibly tortured by agents of each country, Human Rights Watch said.
